Brightons Parliamentary Creds
January 15, 2010 on 3:00 pm | By admin | In TravelBrighton Short Breaks commends Brighton and Hove attesting its credentials as the most Right On city in the UK this week with the fact that it is the first occurance a parliamentary election has experienced an all-female listing of campaigners.
20 years after Mrs Thatcher broke governmental conventions by the first ever Prime Minister the complaint that the foyers of Westminster are still a macho controlled ring just as loudly as ever! So, Brighton and Hove’s full female short list of Parliamentary prospects gives some boost to a future future change of base in the gender proportion in the political power world.
Being cited in The Argus , Fawcett Society chief executive Ceri Goddard said: “If all the candidates are women that is cause for celebration but also concern that it has taken until 2009, whereas all-male elections are still the norm.
“The voters if Brighton can be pleased that whom ever they elect they will be a step closer to closing the gender gap in parliament where currently less than 20% of our MP’s are women – less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda.”
‘Less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda……… ‘ – personally that particular assertion left me slightly fazed about the state of our policy-making domain and speculative as to the grounds for male supremacy above and beyond the one-time antecedency that gentlemen should have it completely their own way – and its a whole Pandoras box of debate that is healthiest left for a different time .
But my resolve here now is as – as always – to fly the flag for Brighton and Hove and evidence how wise reasoning and politically mindful our town is, and having a ratio of men to women in parliament more true of the population, is in my notion, a pace in the true direction!
Popular Vacation Spots Around the World
January 15, 2010 on 5:53 am | By admin | In TravelI have never been out of this country and I want to take a vacation very soon. I have narrowed down my list of destinations and I need to decide between 3 places. I am looking at New Zealand, Italy, and France. They are all beautiful places and it will be a difficult choice. My sister went to France and stayed at a gorgeous little chateau. I would love to sample all of the wonderful food in Italy. My cousin rented one of the Whangamata Holiday Homes in New Zealand and she had a fantastic time. I have a difficult decision ahead of me.
