The origin of Air Compressors

The lung is a perfect example of the usefulness of air compressors. When you inhale or blow out air from your chest you increase the pressure in your lungs, which is relatively the same principle that governs an air compressor, containing air that has been pressurized. You use the pressurized air in your lungs to expel air that can be felt with the palm of your hand. It was this principle that led to the creation of manmade air compressors. Two of the most common types of air compressors are the positive displacement and dynamic compressor. Positive displacement air compressors work by filling a chamber with pressurized air and then releasing it to create force. Dynamic air compressors work under the principle of rotary air acceleration, where a centrifuge accelerates and decelerates air. In this process, velocity is used to increase the pressure in the air.
